An affirmation is powerful, it is a positive saying or statement which can help you overcome challenging times or self sabotaging thoughts. In this blog I will show you how to create a special spread within your bullet journal just for your favourite affirmations.
What is an affirmation?
An affirmation can be a statement like ‘ I will be ok’ or it can be a quote that resonates with you. Reading an affirmation can help you feel grounded, at peace and motivated to get going.
An affirmation I hold close to my heart is ‘ I want to feel free, happy, calm and focused’. I have it stuck to my mirror and on the wall in my office, I read it at different points throughout the day and it reminds me where I am going and why.
I find it really helpful to make monthly affirmation spreads that have statements or quotes that I can focus on for that month. For me each month has a different energy so while some are full steam ahead others are quieter. I pick quotes that reflect this and focus on what is important that month. I am about to show you how I created my travel themes affirmation pages for January of February. You can use your own affirmation or the ones I have used if they sit with you.
bullet journal: Travel theme
I have chosen a travel theme for one of my Bullet Journals this year. I thought because we can currently not travel the world due to Covid-19 restrictions, why not do it from the comfort of our bullet journals? In January I traveled to Paris and this month (February) I have traveled to South Korea! Take a look at my January monthly set up here. Here are two of my favourite facts about these places –
Paris – The Lourve is very big! It has over 9 million visitors annually which makes it the most popular museum on the planet! It is home to the Mona Lisa but actually has over 460,000 pieces in it’s collection. If you allocate 30 seconds of viewing per piece it would take you 35 day’s to see them all. WOW!
South Korea – South Korea has the fastest internet in the world and is steadily emerging as a world tech giant! Its internet is faster than Norway’s and Switzerlands. The perfect country for streaming lovers and gamers.
January Affirmation spread for your bullet journal.
My other bullet journal pages for January were focused on Paris fashion and French food. I wanted my affirmation spread to look like a street you would walk down in Paris. Imagine a cold night, walking down a dark street with only a little light shining from the street lamps over head. The Seine glittering with hints of moonlight. Couples out on midnight walks and restaurants full of locals and visitors. It sounds so romantic doesn’t it? The affirmation I picked this month is –
” Create Adventures For Yourself’s”
I love this quote because going into another year without travel, it is hard to imagine many adventures. This affirmation reminds me that anything can be an adventure…we just have to create it. I have turned my trips to the park into an adventure. I try to find a different spot very time to explore. You can create adventures within your mind and explore them any time you like.
To create this page you will need two blank pages within your bullet journal.
Creating page one.
This first page is really simple to re-create. First garb your favourite pencil and draw the outline of this doodle. Write in the ‘PARIS’ lettering and add in the details like the grass. Then grab a black pen and draw over the pencil outline. Shade in the pole and the lettering. Don’t forget to rub out the pencil marks. You could make this doodle as small or large as you like.
Creating page two.
Just like you did above, start by drawing everything in pencil. Then outline the worlds and the doodle using a fine black pen. Using watercolour shade around the letters and lightly shade in the doodle using grey and a light brown or orange. Once everything is dry, get your white waterproof gel pen. Use it in the ‘adventure’ letters and on the lamp post light.
Finally for the word ‘yourself’ you will see I have used a different shade of paper. It was because I made a mistake when I was first writing underneath in pen. I really like the texture that a different colour of paper adds to the page though so all you need to do to re-create this is, cut a piece of paper you would like to use (make sure you will be able to fit the word on it). Stick the paper on with glue, wait for it to dry and then write over it.
I really enjoyed making my affirmations spread and I hope you do as well. If you do re-create it in your bullet journal please tag me in a picture of it!

I hope you enjoyed my video and don’t forget that you can pause throughout the video so that you can work alongside me. My affirmation this month was, ” No one every made a difference by being like everybody else”. I really like this quote, it reminds me to stand tall and to embrace all my differences. It also reminds me of South Korea because it is such a unique country (which is why I love it so much!)
I wanted to offer you some technical tips along with my video:
- Normally I am quite light with my watercolours but for this spread I have used more paint. This was to make sure the page really stood out and the colours for this theme (South Korea) needed to be bright.
- I used my grey watercolour as shadowing but also to represent ‘paper’.
- My white gel pen really helped the details on my page pop. I would recommend using one but if you don’t have one white watercolour would work once the page is dry.
