In this blog I will tell you what a cover page is and show you step-by-step how you can create our Bullet Journal February Cover Page. This cover page is themed for the Lunar New Year! Are you excited? Because I am!
What is a cover page?
A Cover page or ‘title page’ marks the start of a section in your bullet journal. I would suggest doing a cover page at the very front of your bullet journal and then at the start of every month to separate sections.
Cover Page – The Front of your Bullet Journal
The front page of your bullet journal is like a fresh start! It can be scary when you go to create a cover page because you want to start your bujo off with a bang. Turn any scared feelings into excitement. It is the chance to create something new, yippee! Let’s look at some fun ideas for a cover page:
- A quote
Starting with a quote that you love is a great way to create a cover page. Every time you open your bullet journal, you will be inspired and motivated. I really love doing a quote at the start of my bullet journal like, “let’s travel”, “keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground” or “you have been assigned this mountain to show others it can be moved”.
2. The year
Keep it simple and make a cover page around the year! 2021 is such a fun number to decorate around. A year full of hope & joy. What better way to start your bullet journal.
3. Create a scrap book look/ vision board on the first page.
Why not make your cover page a scrap book or a vision board? It is a really fun way of creating a cover page and it means you can put things on it that mean something to you. Perhaps this year is your year of travel, why not scrapbook all of the countries or cities you would like to visit.
Monthly Cover Pages
You could also use a quote for your monthly pages but I think the month itself is simple and easily divides up your bullet journal into sections.
You can make it unique by using different designs and techniques like watercolours. You can find the best watercolours in India in our latest blog here. I enjoy matching my monthly title page with my monthly theme. I will show you what I mean below.
How to re-create our bullet journal february cover page ?
Right, let me show you step by step, how to re-create this Bullet Journal February cover page in your own bullet journal.
Our February cover page is themed for the Chinese Lunar New Year. This is the year of the OX, in Chinese culture the OX is a valued animal because of its role in agriculture. The Oxen are hard workers, they are reliable but never demanding praise. An OX year occurs every 12 years. I think 2021 needs some OX energy, reliability yes please!
To see how I drew my doodle please watch my video in this blog. I will show you the steps I take to create all of my doodles below –
Step 1 – I use my pencil to sketch my drawings and any text.
Step 2 – Outline with waterproof black gel pen. For this cover page I have used my black pen for the outlines.
Step 3 – Single light wash of watercolour (once your light wash is dry you can go over with a heavier layer to create the 3D effect).
Step 4 – Light grey colour for shadows. Can you spot the light grey colour underneath the black line on my cover page?
Step 5 – White gel pen or white paint for highlights. This detail is in the February word.
Make sure you watch my cover page video to see my full creation so that you can do it yourself. I hope you enjoy creating my February cover page! If you re-create it please let me know in the comments!
