This blog is all about setting goals for March. I ring in the New Year on December the 31st but I start my year during March! Sounds strange, doesn’t it? Let me explain…
MARch is my new year
I have always thought of March as a month for me to ‘start again’ or to get really stuck in. For a while I didn’t think much of it until I realised other people are the same! It could be to do with Chinese New Year or just that the two first months of the year are always so slow but I always look forward to March.
March is a chance to blow off the cobwebs, emerge from hibernation, shed all the extra layers and get ready for what the year ahead holds. I have been thinking hard about my goals and I have separated them into personal and work goals.
Before we get into how to create my March goal spread, let me tell you a little more about goal setting.
How to Set goals.
A great way to create viable goals is by using the SMART method. This method allows you to explore your goals in-depth as opposed to just writing something that may be unachievable.
THE SMART METHOD
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Relevant
Time-bound
Here is an example of a SMART goal –
I want to travel to Bali by August 2021 because I have dreamed of visiting Bali for five years.
I need to save £2,000 for my trip which will take me four months to save. By July I will have saved the money for my trip and will book my tickets to Bali then and travel in August.
Do you see how specific my goal is? I now not only have a goal but a plan that I can work towards to achieve it so come August I am sitting on a plane to Bali.
BONUS GOAL SETTING TIP!
I have a bonus goal-setting tip for you all. Before I start creating my SMART goals I always create a vision board. A vision board is a place that you can stick in things that inspire you. You could cut images and words out of magazines or you could print out images that mean a lot to you. A vision board can be created on cardboard or in a notebook. I created mine on my computer and printed out the page. I also printed out one for my personal visions and one for my professional visions.
Stick your vision board somewhere you will see it often. Mine is on my wall in my office and often while I am working I glance up and look at everything on it. Each year I make mine (in January or March).
MY MARCH GOAL SETTING SPREAD.
My goals page for March is part of my travel bullet journal. This month I am visiting Bali which is very exciting! I have used tropical tree doodles to decorate my page and colors like bright green and orange.
Let’s go through how I made this spread –
- I started by drawing the word ‘ goals’, the border and the leaves in pencil.
- I then drew over them with a black fine-tipped pen.
- Finally, I used my trusty watercolors to add a pop of colour and my white gel pen to add some structure to the doodles and text.
What do you think about my goals spread? Let me know in the comments.

A sneak peak at my brain dump page!
I will be writing a separate blog about what a brain dump page is but here is an early look at mine. It is Bali themed so is tropical and I really like the circle in the middle of the page. When I dump my thoughts onto the page it feels like I am almost creating a ‘brain storm’. Do you use a brain dump in your bullet journal? I find them so helpful to my overall mental health and will be covering this is my next blog…
Thank you for ready!
