What is a podcast?
Podcasts are voice-only series although sometimes they are also recorded on video, like TV shows they normally have an overall theme to them. They offer inspiration, information, interesting stories, and another way for you to connect to people. Thousands (if not millions) of podcasts exist and there truly is something for everyone. True Crime podcasts are really popular as are storybooks and motivational podcasts. I listen to podcasts while I am in the shower or bath, out walking, and sometimes while I work. This blog will focus on podcasts about productivity, business, and inspiration. As an entrepreneur, I find these types of podcasts really helpful as it is free information and nonstop learning! Let’s dive into some of my favorite podcasts which I think you will love.
my top podcast recommendations.
Steven Bartlett is a CEO and in his podcast he interviews CEOS. Sometimes he focuses on one topic like resilience or he takes you through the CEOS journey to where they are at the moment. I love hearing each CEOS story, how they got to where they are and the podcast often offers great thinking points. If you would like to expand and grow your mind this is a good podcast for you.
Adulting is a podcast by Oenone. She asks her guests what they wish they had learned about adulting at school. It is based on the idea of things we should have been taught at school like how to do a tax return! The interview subjects can be serious but mostly it is lighthearted easy listening podcasts. It is like spending time with friends.
How I Built This is the first business podcast I listened to. Guy Raz interviews business owners about how they built their empires. He interviews some of the biggest entrepreneurs in the world from the founder of Lululemon to Jo Malone. The podcasts are normally 40 minutes long, my favourite part of them is simply hearing how ideas came about and then how the founders grew them into big businesses. Even if you are not an entrepreneur you would find this podcast gripping!
Morning Brew is a daily newsletter turned podcast. It offers a roundup of business news all in one handy place! It is brilliant if you don’t have time to search every single business media outlet (which let’s be honest, who does?).
How podcasts can help you create healthy habits.
For me, listening to podcasts is a form of self-care. I realised over time that I was forming healthy habits around my love for podcasts. A healthy habit is the opposite of an unhealthy habit. It is good for you and can improve your overall lifestyle/wellness. In the stressful world, we now find ourselves in, creating healthy habits is critically important. They keep us motivated, productive, healthy, and happy. If you treat listening to a podcast as something kind that you are doing for yourself, you will instantly feel more relaxed and less stressed.
I wanted to show you some of the different ways I have created healthy habits around my addiction to podcasts.
Walking AND LISTENING to a podcast.
My daily walks are so important to me and even more so now we are in lockdown. I start my working day with my walk and listening to a podcast allows me to feel productive. If I did not listen to my podcasts, I would definitely miss some days walking. I have not only created a healthy habit (walking) around listening to a podcast but I am also absorbing knowledge and learning new things!
listening to a podcast in the bath or shower.
Having a bath for me is really a form of self care. After a hard day I love having a bath and I listen to podcasts while I do it! Listening to a podcast in the shower makes me feel like I am using my time wisely. I don’t believe or buy into being over productive or always having to ‘hustle’ but I do like to use my time well. Podcasts help me do that!
Working and listening to a podcast.
Of course it depends on the type of work you do but sometimes I listen to podcasts while working. If I am doing general admin, I turn on a podcast and it helps me stay in the zone. It pushes me to work more and to also work smart which is a healthy habit.
Journaling and listening to a podcast
When journaling I put on meditative podcasts and spend some time reflecting while journaling. I listen to them while I create my Bullet Journal spreads as well. Journaling is a very healthy habit that helps you reflect on your thoughts and feelings.
Tea and a podcast = Healthy habit
Spending a moment of calm, just sitting down and breathing while drinking your favorite tea (or coffee), and listening to a podcast can be really healing. It is something that can take as little as 10 minutes but is a very healthy habit. For this type of mini-moment, I would suggest listening to Fern Cotton’s podcast, Happy Place.
my bullet journal podcast spread for april.
For this spread, I have created a really simple place to write down great podcasts I listen to. It is for my travel-themed Bullet Journal in April which is Japanese-themed. I love Mount Fiji and the pop of red in the spread! Below is a video which details how I created this spread, I loved making it and hope you enjoy the video.
